The President's Message

“ITS A SMALL WORLD ~ WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.”

I am honored to be a part of the Hondo Garden Club.  This small, diverse group of extraordinary women volunteers endless hours to operate and maintain our Thrift Shop which provides money for us to beautify the community, support state and national projects, and provide outstanding programs to educate members and the public.

We support student scholars, mentor the disabled, provide comfort and clothing to the displaced and elderly.  We decorate public spaces for Christmas and Memorial Day, participate and educate at the Medina County fair and parade.  We sponsor a cleanup day with middle school students.  We have a citywide drawing for floral baskets for National Garden Week, and Arbor Day brings trees to our city.  Even unsold items are donated to Ronald McDonald House and to the less fortunate in Mexico.  This club was instrumental in developing and planting the 20 plus acre Hondo Nature Trail.

Someone always steps up to each new project with creativity and enthusiasm that leaves me in awe of my friends and associates.  Not only have I made wonderful lasting friendships, I have learned to be a real gardener.

Thank you for allowing me to be your president.  It’s a small world.  With each new challenge we can make a difference.  This year we will concentrate on environmental education so we may become caretakers of our air, water, forest, land and wildlife.

Sincerely,
               Elaine

it's a world of laughter, it's a world of tears

it's a world of hopes, it's a world of fear

there's so much that we share that it's time we're aware

it's a small world after all......
